Walter Dean (Warwick University), Strict finitism and the origins of computational complexity theory

The goals of this talk are twofold : 1) to relate the origins of computational complexity theory to the view known as “strict finitism” originally associated with Yessenin-Volpin; 2) to suggest that the mathematical analysis of feasibility which grew out of philosophical reactions to strict finitism is independently applicable to modeling a range of sortical phenomena in natural language of the sort famously highlighted by Dummett in his paper  “Wang’s paradox”.
